Troy Evans

Troy Evans was born December 18, 1910, in Sontag, Lawrence County, Mississippi, to Robert “Bob” Evans and Clara McArthur Evans. After his mother’s death when he was nine months old, his father married Angie (Pope) Evans. Troy Evans married Eunice Sanford on June 24, 1932, and they were married for 69 years before his passing on October 6, 2001.
He received the Holy Ghost on September 12, 1931, and his wife, Eunice, received the Holy Ghost in the same revival as her husband on September 8, 1931. Troy accepted the call to the ministry soon after receiving the Holy Ghost and began preaching on December 18, 1931. Their ministry spanned over 60 years and took them not only to Mississippi, but to Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Kansas.
He pastored several churches in Mississippi, including New Chapel United Pentecostal Church in Collins, which was the first church he pastored, and he was instrumental in getting New Chapel affiliated with the United Pentecostal Church in 1953. He also pastored at Gulfport, Polkville, Sebastopol, Washington, McClain, Seminary, Pea Ridge (now New Hebron), and Sweetwater in Ellisville. He founded the church More Light UPC in Grand Bay, Alabama, and pastored there for 10 years.
Bro. & Sis. Evans retired from full-time active ministry in 1978, but remained active in the work of the Lord, preaching weekends and short revivals until their health prevented them from traveling. They both were active members of New Chapel United Pentecostal Church in Collins, Mississippi, until their passing. He was a great pioneer of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ
