Obie N. Ramsey

Obie Ramsey was born on November 10, 1916, in Holmes County, Florida. At the age of two, his parents moved to southern Alabama, where he grew up well acquainted with the plow and dusty fields.
When he was just 18 years old, he fell in love with a 14-year-old girl named Dorothy Brooks. Around this time, he received the Holy Ghost at a revival preached by a young evangelist named D.L. Welch.
Obie and Dorothy were married when they were 18 and 14, respectively, after he playfully warned her that he might “die of old age” if she did not marry him immediately. He received his call to preach shortly after their marriage.
Obie attended Bible College in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for a season, and then began evangelizing. Since he did not own an automobile, he would hitch rides with friends to preach revivals.
During his approximately seventy years of ministry, he pastored several churches: Berry’s Creek Pentecostal Church in Hosford, Florida; Tally’s Chapel in Bogalusa, Louisiana; Powell’s Grove Pentecostal Church in Jayess, Mississippi; and First Pentecostal Church in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
In 1956, he pioneered a church in Lakeland, Florida. After leaving Lakeland, he went to Holly Hill, Florida, where he retired from active pastoring.
After retiring, he and Sister Ramsey moved to Panama City, Florida, where he faithfully served as Assistant Pastor to Reverend Wilfred Carter until failing health prompted their move to Pascagoula, Mississippi.
After a very successful ministry, God called Reverend Obie Ramsey to his eternal home on September 15, 2005.
