Lloyd Adcock

Lloyd Adcock was born October 15, 1927 at home near Philadelphia, MS His early days were spent on a farm with his sister, Mavis (oldest) and two older brothers: Willie Paul and Homer. He attended school at the Arlington School near Philadelphia. (It is note-worthy to mention that this same building where he attended school, he later purchased for the Mississippi District United Pentecostal's Campgrounds.)
In July 1946, he received the Holy Ghost and began attending the Bethlehem Pentecostal Church pastored by Paul Way. The year of 1946 was a good year for Lloyd because on October 6, he married Eloise Commer of Philadelphia who has remained his wife for 73 years until her death in 2019. They had three sons. Danny (who met an untimely death in 1976), James who now lives in Dallas, TX, and Paul of Brandon: and a foster daughter, Sheila now of Philadelphia. A host of lovely grandchildren.
He lost no time after receiving the Holy Ghost because one year later in 1947, he began his preaching journey. This journey he has now traveled for 65 years. In the year of 1955, he was licensed with the United Pentecostal Church.
In 1960 after living in Mobile, AL for six year and assisting Reverend Oscar Vouga, he moved his family back to Philadelphia and became the pastor of Macedonia UPC for 12 years. In the fall or 1972, Bro Adcock felt a desire to move to the Jackson Area and begin a Home Mission Work. Brandon became the city of choice and in January 1973, the first service was held in Brandon which started in a humble store front building in downtown Brandon.
From the store front building to a church!
Property was purchased on Highway 468, and in January 1975 the congregation moved into the new building there. Disaster struck on November 21, 1992 and destroyed the entire sanctuary.
Romans 8:28, "All things work together for good to them that love the Lord...." Yes, God was in the storm and after the dust and debris settled, property was purchased on Highway 80 and a nice edifice was erected. On January 24, 1994 the doors to this new sanctuary were opened and many souls have entered to hear and experience the wonder message of Salvation.
City Chaplain!
On May 1 5, 2004, Reverend Adcock was honored at the Annual Brandon Day celebration with
the presentation of the Murphy Adkins Service Award. This award is given for "Outstanding Performance and Dedication while serving in the Brandon Area." Murphy Adkins presented the award to Reverend Adcock and stated, "Reverend Adcock founder of the First United Pentecostal Church in Brandon and is now semi-retired. However, upon his retirement he graciously accepted the role of Chaplain for the Brandon Fire Department, Brandon Police, and the City of Brandon and its officials. Further, Reverend Adcock is no stranger to anyone in the City of Brandon and has served as a role model and minister to many, not only in his church,
but also in the community at large.”
Brother Adcock has served in many offices of the United Pentecostal Church:
Section Youth Director, District Campground Director, District Purchasing Agent, District Sunday
School Director, Section Six Presbyter, Honorary District Board member.
