Donald Hickman

Donald K. Hickman was born in Washington Parish, Louisiana, on August 22, 1945, to Murphy and Eunice Hickman. He married Carolyn Courtney, daughter of Leslie and Mabel Courtney, on December 6, 1963, and they were married for 32 years until his passing.
He accepted a call to the ministry while they were attending Albany United Pentecostal Church in Albany, Louisiana, pastored by his father-in-law, Leslie Courtney.

The Hickmans had one child, a son, Donald Kenneth (Ken) Hickman Jr. born on September 15, 1964.

Donald Hickman was elected as pastor of Great Falls United Pentecostal Church in Great Falls, Montana, in September 1969. He pastored there until 1972, and he resigned and moved his family to Franklinton, Louisiana.

Donald Hickman and his family attended Mt. Zion United Pentecostal in Franklinton until he was elected as pastor of Roseland United Pentecostal Church in Roseland, Louisiana, in 1974, and he pastored there until he resigned.

He was then elected as pastor of New Chapel United Pentecostal Church in Collins, Mississippi in August 1979. He remained pastor at New Chapel UPC until his untimely death on July 23, 1996. He is the longest-serving pastor in New Chapel’s history to date. He was pastor for almost 17 years.

While Donald Hickman was pastor at New Chapel UPC, a new Sanctuary and a Family Life Center was built as well as an upgrade and a carport and upstairs added to the parsonage. He also had a covered drive-through with an additional side entrance and restrooms added to the sanctuary.

He served as Presbyter of Section 10 in the Mississippi District. While at New Chapel UPC, they were blessed with a foster son, Dennis Davis. Both of their sons are ministers of the Gospel. Dennis Davis pastors Raymond UPC and is the Mississippi District Secretary. Their son, Ken Hickman, is now the pastor of New Chapel UPC.

Donald Hickman was a man with a passion for Jesus Christ. He was well respected in the community and was a friend to everyone. He had compassion, love, and respect for everyone no matter what their situation in life was. He led by example and is still fondly remembered by people in Collins and the surrounding areas.

New Chapel United Pentecostal Church of Collins, and the Mississippi District were blessed to have had such a great man of God as a spiritual leader.
