Mendenhall UPC

The Raymond McMorris family went to Mendenhall, Mississippi, in May 1988 to start a church. They rented a storefront building on Court Avenue in Mendenhall and held the first service on May 29, 1988. Three people were in attendance, Bro. McMorris, Tonya McMorris, and a lady who came by to see the church. That was the beginning, and services and revival have continued in Mendenhall until now.

Understandably, the storefront building needed repairs. Members of FPC of New Hebron donated labor and supplies to build a platform and put in new carpet.

Bro. Steven Wheeler held a notable revival in the storefront building with two miracles during the Revival. God healed a young man, Chris Keen, in a wheelchair, and he left the service walking instead of being pushed in a wheelchair. God also healed Danny Robbins of a neck injury.

The assembly purchased the current church building located at 428 South Main Street from the Mendenhall Church of God in November 1991. Bro. Raymond McMorris moved the congregation In 1992 from the storefront on Court Street to South Main Street's new location.

After approximately seven years, Brother McMorris resigned in January 1995. Bro. Danny Robbins was elected as pastor in February 1995 and resigned in August 1998.

The assembly elected Bro. George Owens pastor of The First Pentecostal Church of Mendenhall on September 28, 1998. When he resigned, Bro. Jesse Swilley became the pastor and remains there to date. Revivals continue.
