Lighthouse Gospel Pentecostal Church

Just over 30 years ago, a young preacher from Booneville felt a burden in his heart. He asked other pastors and church leaders, “Why doesn’t someone start a Pentecostal ministry in the Tishomingo area?” Over time, he realized God had placed this burden in his heart for a reason—it was his calling. In 1970, that calling became a reality, marking the beginning of Gospel Lighthouse Pentecostal Church.

Bro. W. H. Burcham and about seven families held the first services in a rented pool hall in Tishomingo. Nearly two years later, they moved into a small brick building on Hwy. 25 N., where God’s provision was evident through countless miracles. Over the years, the original building was remodeled and extended, and a large fellowship center and church school were added. Today, the church averages 170 in attendance each Sunday, with a 30-member choir, piano, and several other instruments leading worship.

In the early days, Sister Freda Burcham played her accordion for congregational singing. Now, the church offers services Sunday mornings and evenings, Wednesday nights, a Ladies Prayer Meeting on Thursdays, Fish Supper Fellowship on Fridays, monthly men’s fellowship, and frequent revival services. Activities for children are also an important part of the ministry.

Bro. Burcham’s dedication has been a constant throughout the church’s history. Known for his shepherd’s heart, he has ministered tirelessly—preaching, counseling, visiting the sick, and helping those in need. He balanced his ministry with regular work, including auto body repair and carpet installation, but always made time for people. “If you will be a servant, God will use you,” he often says.

Gospel Lighthouse’s leadership has included faithful members like Duggar Feltman and Hugh Maness, who have served on the Board of Trustees since the beginning, blazing a trail for younger generations. Bro. Burcham has also ministered in churches of nearly every denomination and always prioritized the spiritual growth of young people. The church school, serving grades three through twelve, reflects that burden.

In 2000, the church moved into a new, debt-free sanctuary. On October 8, 2014, Bro. Duane Burcham was elected pastor, and Bro. W. H. Burcham took Senior Pastor status. While the church could not celebrate its 50th anniversary in August 2020 due to COVID-19, Bro. Burcham reflects on the journey with gratitude. “We came to Tishomingo with nothing, but God has performed so many miracles since that time—it would take a book to tell it all,” he said.

Through faith, perseverance, and a heart for service, Bro. Burcham and the congregation of Gospel Lighthouse have built a ministry that continues to impact the community and glorify God.
