First Pentecostal Church of Quitman

First United Pentecostal Church of Quitman, Mississippi, was planted in October 1970 by Rev. Glen McLeod and his wife, Sister Brenda McLeod. In its early years, the congregation met in a rented house on Archusa Avenue, with vital support from Mount Pisgah United Pentecostal Church, pastored by Rev. Bill Moore, who covered the rent for the first year. From 1971 to 1975, the church rented a building formerly occupied by East Mississippi Electric Power Association.

After a challenging start, God opened doors in the community, and the congregation purchased its current property on Palestine Road for just $1,000. Remarkably, the church was able to cut and sell timber from the property for $1,500, funding its new building. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in the winter of 1973, officiated by Rev. Richard Forsyth, and the first service in the new sanctuary was held in 1975. Growth continued, and a fellowship hall was added in 1982.

Rev. and Sister McLeod faithfully pastored the church for nearly 44 years. In April 2014, Rev. and Sister Shannon Thornhill were elected pastors and served until October 2015. Rev. and Sister T. J. Jackson led the church from March 2016 to July 2018, a period marked by revival and growth. In August 2018, Rev. Corbin Kill and his wife, Sister Summer Kill, were elected pastors, continuing the church’s mission of spiritual growth and community outreach.
