In the mid 1930s, Bro Frank Goss pastored, and they called the church Harper Tabernacle. There was a space of time where no services were held in Carthage.

From 1950–1955, Bro Elzie Hall was pastor. He built the church, referred to as “the little block church”, on Van Buren St.

In 1955, Bro. A.M. LaPrairie and Bro Clarence Reed were there.

From 1956–1975, Bro. George Roberts pastored. He built the first church on Highway 16 in 1966.

From 1975–2006, Bro. J.E. Burgess was pastor. He built a new church building on the Highway 16 property in 1979, and in January of 1980, founded Carthage Christian Academy.

In 2006, Bro Joe Burgess became pastor. He has since built a new sanctuary on the Highway 16 property.
