The Life of Dennis Joshua Lack

 

Born October 20, 1895 in Magee, MS

Married Ella Bishop in 1915

Went to be with the Lord August 12, 1969

Father of two sons, Denson and Delton, and four daughters: Ann Doris, Pauline and Rachel

1926 Received the Holy Ghost; Previously Brother Lack told his wife, “I can’t get the Holy Ghost because if I do, I will have to preach and I can’t preach you!” When he received the Holy Ghost, God did call him into the ministry.

1927 Bro. Lack began his ministry with revivals in brush arbors and in homes in Mize, Raleigh and Lake Mississippi areas

1931 He and his family moved to Alabama and preached in brush arbors in Goodway, Wheeler and Prichard Areas.

1935 Bro. Lack built his first church building in Wesson, MS now known as Springhill United Pentecostal Church after holding services in brush arbors and in Bro. Joe Hamilton’s home. He pastored here for about 10 years.

1945 They went to Vicksburg where he held services in his home for one and one half years.

1947 He and his family moved to Lucedale, MS, holding revivals in various places.

1948 One year later, they moved to Brookhaven and pastored at Pleasant Ridge UPC for about two years.

1950 Then, they moved to Louisiana, where he pastored Mt. Hermon UPC.

1952 He founded and built a church in Jackson, Louisiana.

1954 Bro. Lack move to Georgetown, MS where he built a new building and pastored there for eleven years.

1963 The last move was to Brookhaven, MS where he built Lack’s Chapel. He remained there until he was disabled by illness.

1969 On August 12, Bro. Lack went to meet his Savior and was buried at the Easthaven Cemetery in Brookhaven, MS.

In his later years, Bro. Lack regrets were, “In those days the ministers had a burden to spread the Gospel in as many areas as possible, often leaving their converts undisciplined and without a pastor.”
